I use woodworking, textiles, and video to reconstruct the violent exhaustion of the American suburban script. Through a collision of pop culture and punk iconography, I operate in the precarious space between the setup and punchline of a joke, suspended in the purgatory of humor, where the camp of the rose-colored glasses is self-aware and mocks its own tribe. This hides the truth that the work is about surviving decades in the service industry and how fun it is to antagonize the suburbs while pretending it's something out of a Roland Barthes essay. Taking from alternative comedy and professional wrestling kayfabe, I weaponize humor to expose the real weight of social constructs. I often act as a bad-faith actor to dramatize the complicit violence and curated optimism of the Inland Empire, unleashing an evil simulacrum of myself. I build phenomenological sitcoms where kinetic sculptures and video personas perform in synchronized recursive loops of tension and relief. Whether transforming a gallery or hijacking a public space, the environment becomes a theatrical set where the viewer is left to wander the physical infrastructure of a joke.
